Para One?

"Je suis, je suis le plus fort un peu comme Musclor,
Je suis, je suis le plus fort un peu comme Musclor"

This track is called Musclor, and I know what you guys are thinking:

"Musclor. Sounds like muscles."
"Yeah it does huh."
"Actually, it sounds like mussels."
"Wanna go to the gym then go have seafood?"
"... Sure."

This is produced by Para One, a Frenchman whose debut album Epiphanie was groundbreaking, but sadly overlooked. This was produced in collaboration with TTC, a French rap group that he was once a member of (lol).

Musclor!

Para One - Musclor

Does anyone else think that rap in other languages sounds better?

City Skylines

Okay, I decided to get the MacBook.

I know it's underpowered/dodgy to use with Windows products (unless you want to fork out for Boot Camp), but, I just can't resist simple, decent design.

Brilliant.

Pomomofo are from Sydney, Australia. They make upbeat electro indie. This one has an excellent chorus, when they sing it, I kinda wanna shout out with them.

Hold Me

Pacific! meets Breakbot? Cram in dreamy vocals mixed with a melodious buffet of Piano, please.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson. Your music influenced a generation, as well as mine. Even now your music is being remixed by big hitters such as Villains. You are the master of your domain.

Rest In Peace.

Kim & Jessie

I still have no idea what computer to get, I'm weighing up between getting:
  • A Kogan Agora netbook + A quad core desktop
  • A decent notebook
Any thoughts?

On a completely random note, M83 are ace. I really dig their frosty, melodic vocals partnered with lush, eery synths.

This Montag remix, in a word, delivers. It doesn't make the classic mistake of trying to change the song into something it's not suited to, but instead compliments the original sound, as one should try (I'm allowed to have an opinion, right?).

Pearler.

Paris

I'd like to be honest, but if I had the choice between being honest and not being honest, I'd pick not being honest. - Scott

Friendly Fires are a three-piece Indie band from England. I would akin them to Foals meets Cut Copy. Aeroplane are a duo that make chilled, powerful remixes. They're releasing an album soon, with the help of Soulwax and Au Revoir Simone.

I love this remix by Aeroplane. It is actually brilliant. Pity it goes for 7 minutes, but lucky for you kids, I've cut it down to a more palateable size.

EP: Starter

I recently acquired Boys Noize's new EP, Starter. Starter consist of two tracks, Starter and Jeffer.

Starter is a fairly ho-hum attempt by Boys Noize, recreating the sound of his debut album, Oi Oi Oi (lovely name). Even though I do have a soft spot for this sound, it feels tired and outdated.

Jeffer, on the other hand, is, in a word, retarded.

The song starts off with an extended 30 second drum solo, and then starts bleeping and blipping itself around, womping and warping itself into a beat. I am tempted to compare it to a chimpanzee armed with a hammer going around beating disabled kids. But that analogy would probably be looked down upon, a la Chasers' Starlight Foundation Skit.

Starter is both a lacklustre and brilliant EP. Jeffer is the decent half.

Boys Noize - Jeffer

And a Kaiser Chiefs remix that is equally retarded.

Animal

I need to get a new computer. By the end of this financial year, because of that Government tax rebate. It's kind of stressing, but I'm not even sure if I need a new one (I do).

But, erm, Laptop or Desktop? They both have their pros and cons, none of which I'm too sure of. Maybe I should invest in a really nice hat, so that I will continually get compliments about how nice it is.

Yeah. That sounds good.

Anyway, here's some Fake Blood! I know you kids have been waiting out for him to deliver, but, to be honest, this is kind of sub par for Fake Blood, expected more from him. Moves away from the grumbling, bounce bassline towards a fuzzy, reverberating one. A relaxed effort.

No 'Fake Blood!' name drop though :(

Miike Snow - Animal (Fake Blood Remix)

On a separate note, that remix of Darude by Fake Blood was a fake*. Originated from the Erol Alkan forum (which I am a member of). Those kids have waaaaaaay too much time on their hands. But there's a new remix of Calvin Harris (why?) coming out by him soon, so stay tuned kids!

*Does fake Fake Blood become real blood? Or not?

Whatchadoin?

W-w-w-w-whaaaaaaaaaat-cha-dooooooo-in?
Villains kills this baby from N.A.S.A.. Sort of Fake Blood-esque (more on him later). Love it.

To Yourself

I just had this sent to me by Leo, my Germanic friend. The track in question is To Yourself, a slightly more house-y track than I would choose, but hey, not bad.

David E Sugar - To Yourself

If you're more in a 'The Twelves' mood, then this is for you.

Burn It All Down

Sorry I've been away for so long kids, I'll make it up to you somehow.

Anywho, for now I'll leave you with an excellent rendition of VHS Or Beta's 'Burn It All Down'*. Fred Falke adds a powerful yet dreamy touch to this song. Would go well to a video of arsonists setting a city on fire in slow motion.

VHS Or Beta - Burn It All Down (Fred Falke Remix)

*The full extended remix actually goes for over 7 minutes. I edited it down to a more iPod friendly size.

My Fingers Are Icy Poles

Chilly, chilly, chilly. I could do with a warm mug of cocoa. Or someone warm to snuggle with under a doona.

Chateau Marmont will hold me out. Glittery French synth. With lashings of acoustic guitar.

Chateau Marmont - Maison Klaus
Midnight Juggernauts - Into The Galaxy (Chateau Marmont Remix)

Hmmm.
Still waiting for someone warm to snuggle with.

THIS/Is

THIS/Is are an enigmatic duo from Sydney, making glitchy, fast, in-your-face music. They've been snapped up by record company Interscope, and are set to produce official remixes for names like Lady Gaga (lol) and Paradiso Girls, who are comparable to a European version of The Pussycat Dolls (lol again). Sorry kids.

"Erm, what? Coulson, you've gone soft."
"What do you mean? It's a THIS/Is remix!"
"I hate you Coulson."

Whatever. Hate you kids too. Here's some of their remixes.

Paradiso Girls - Patron Tequila (THIS/Is Remix)
Just A Band - Burn It Out (THIS/Is Remix)

Plus an original. Still hating you kids.

THIS/Is - W.H.S.L. (What Happiness Sounds Like)

Ahhh I'm kidding. I don't hate you kids :)

Cages Surrounding Lions

Okay kids, here's a gem that I've been sleeping on for a while. I don't know who they remind me of, but I have this uncontrollable urge to pidgeon-hole their sound. Don't ask why.

Is it just me, or is Wolf Gang a striking name for a band?

Wolf Gang - Lions In Cages

They sound like a garage-esque version of Cut Copy? Or maybe an electro take on a mainstream band? I really don't know.

Round Up : May

Damn, damn, damn. Completely forgot that it was a new month. Absolute fool I am.

May has been mangled. Jump up for June!

Top 3 Most Downloaded:
1. Estelle - American Boy (Danger Remix)
2. White Lies - You Still Love Him
3. Digitalism - Apollo-Gize (Fred Falke Edit)

Commentary:
1. Excellent remix by Danger, cunning of him to put his name next to Estelle (Kanye West also feats in this song). Get it kids.
2. You Still Love Him epitomises the regret a girl experiences when she loses her love to another woman. Shame it didn't make it to the album.
3. A song about a relationship that doesn't quite work the way it should. Fred Falke's name guarantees this baby is a chilled-out, cheery track.

Top 3 Most Underappreciated:
1. Snob Scrilla - Spaceship
2. Ted & Francis - Erlend (G.L.O.V.E.S. Remix)
3. Simian Mobile Disco - Love

Commentary:
1. What are you doing. Get this track. Bag Raiders produced this. 'Nuff said.
2. Love song, done well. It actually is amazing.
3. See above. With added Simian Mobile Disco.

Bonus For Rarchesters:

Mr Oizo - Steroids (Mr Oizo Remix)*
Little Boots - Meddle (Designer Drugs 80's Coke Jam Remix)
La Roux - In For The Kill (The Twelves Remix)

*Has Uffie. Still addictive, don't worry.

Album : Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was released on May 25th, and is Phoenix's fourth studio album. As expected, it delivers more of the 'catchy-but-what-the-hell-was-he-saying' style of french-indie. Needless to say, the album is a pearler, some of the standouts being '1901', 'Girlfriend' and my personal favourite, 'Lisztomania'.

According to Wikipedia (yes, I'm lazy), Lisztomania was "coined by the German romantic literary figure Heinrich Heine to describe the massive public response to Franz Liszt's virtuosic piano performances".

Oh, okay then.

Here's Lisztomania for you kids to download and listen to. Try to figure out what he's saying without looking at the lyrics. If you already have the original, and want something new, why not try out Yuksek's storming take on it. Pretty interesting.

If I Know You

Okay, my last post was taken down. Probably because of a The Twelves remix I posted.
Damn.
I liked that post.

Anywho, as you probably already know, people are crazy for The Presets here in Australia. 'Apocalypso' even won Album of the Year in 2008. So a lot of people pretend not to like them, as it will make them look 'mainstream'.

You kids are fools.

Anywho, here's an alternate version to their hit, 'If I Know You'. It appeals more to me than the original. Get on it!

Bloc Party + Coulson

Oh, what's this? It's a rework by Coulson himself. That kid is so cool. One day, I'm gonna be just like him.

Bloc Party - Signs (Coulson Rework)

If you get one thing from this entire blog, make sure it's this.

Update: I noticed some of you said you weren't able to download it, so I've fixed the link :)
